Natural stone countertops, like granite, marble, and limestone, are an investment homeowners and business owners will never regret. With deep iridescent colors, a wide range of designs, and subsequent artful movement, natural stone offers that elusive, one-of-a-kind beauty created only in nature. As a result, natural stone countertops add character and warmth to kitchens, baths, and other areas of home with a richness that cannot be duplicated in synthetic materials.
A popular choice of designers for decades, natural stone countertops have now become popular with the public. There are literally hundreds of colors of granite, from variations of white through browns, reds, greens, blues, and black. Brown and beige tones are the most popular, as they work well with most any kitchen color scheme, allowing greater flexibility in redecorating within natural color. Movement from large patterns can carry the eye quickly over the surface of the countertop, while small patterns have a more sedate appearance. The combination of color and movement means that no two countertops are exactly the same.
Nothing compares to the unique beauty of natural stone countertops. This is the result of each slab containing unique color variations, veins, fissures, surface marks, and even blemishes. Even slabs cut from the same area have slight variations that will add to the unique character and natural beauty of the installation in your home. The granite for project will always be one of a kind.
MINERAL COMPOSITION
Granite is made up of three essential minerals: feldspar, quartz, and mica. These minerals occur in different proportions giving each granite its own characteristics
MAINTENANCE
Natural Stone is a porous surface and is protected with a penetrating sealer prior to installation. If a granite top is not sealed properly it is likely to absorb moisture which can increase the likelihood of staining and bacterial growth. The sealer that is applied to tops purchased through Work Surfaces generally lasts 1-2 years. Re-application is recommended thereafter depending on the brand you choose. When using granite tops, it is recommended that a countertop be protected with coasters, trivets, or place mats, and that spills are blotted up immediately.
